It is a tough cliché that people get the politicians they deserve. But can we doubt we get the Council we deserve if we do not actively scrutinise and attempt to understand what they are doing and why.
This is not an easy task, given the complexity of local government, its range of responsibilities and the complex society in which we live.
Questions? Questions! came out of many worried discussions (face to face, over the phone and by email) about how to respond to the Hereford Preferred Options consultation.
It’s a co-operative way to encourage people to ask the questions that are rumbling around in their heads and to get answers that will inform everyone. And therefore to learn more.
So far results are encouraging.
Let’s imagine a time when people will turn out in their numbers to attend council meetings, be keen to ask pertinent and helpful questions and get full and enlightening answers from politicians ready to engage in this continual learning process.
With real world outcomes.
